2006 Sept Wound Care Center

September 1, 2006

One of the many specialized clinical services offered here at St. Francis Medical Center is our Wound Care Center. The goal of the Wound Care Center is to heal chronic wounds, decrease amputation rates, and improve the quality of life for its patients. The types of wounds that are primarily treated at the Wound Care Center are diabetic neuropathy, pressure, venous statis, and peripheral vascular disease. One of the most important aspects of the Wound Care Center is the Hyperbaric Medicine component.  The benefits of hyperbaric medicine are that it increases the level of oxygen in the bloodstream, stimulates new vascular growth, increases oxygen concentration in infected tissues, including bone, and improves the effectiveness of certain antibiotics. The services at the Wound Care Center will be offered on both an inpatient and outpatient basis, so both patients of St. Francis and residents of our service area will all benefit from the exemplary service offered by the Wound Care Center. The Wound Care Center is located in the St. Francis Medical Plaza (Medical Office Building).
